You are asking for feedback from people who have bought scooters in the last couple of years.
I bought my scooter just over a year ago from Day's Mobility in Swansea. I rang lots of people and did lots of research before choosing. Days were really helpful. I told them that I wanted a scooter that I could put in my boot and put together easily in order to give me back some of my independence. They brought two to my house and we assembled and dismantled both of them, in between test driving around the living room, until I had made my choice.
I have to say that I love my little scooter so much but I do still find it incredibly difficult to put together and take apart. My partner can do it effortlessly in under 2 minutes and shopping with him is a dream but what of my independence? Once I have been shopping alone and on that occasion I had to ask a total stranger for help. A couple of times I have taken my daughter and maybe 2 out of about 6 times we have had to ask a total stranger for help. The problem that I have is in joining the front and rear together because it is an awkward thing to do and the components, particularly the rear, are heavy for me. The main issue I have when my daughter is with me is removing the seat whilst dismantling it. A young. burly looking chap kindly offered assistance the last time we attempted that and was sorry he had stopped. Eventually he managed it but his female companion wanted to kill him for his chivalry.
What I would like is to be able to leave it in one piece and maybe have a platform which lowers from the boot. Unfortunately I have a VW Golf and it wouldn't fit unless I took it apart. When my car is due to be changed I will be looking for something that will accommodate it. Until then, I guess I won't be going shopping alone. My advice to anybody looking for a scooter who truly wants to "go it alone", get a specially adapted car first if you can't afford a big strong personal assistant to take with you!
