There are three main types of wheelchairs available:

Powered wheelchairs

Electric wheelchairs which are powered by battery and usually controlled by a joy stick.

Manual self propelled wheelchairs

These wheelchairs have two large wheels at the back and smaller wheels at the front. The user can propel the chair with their hands, pushing the rear wheels round. Sizes vary to suit the user.

Transit wheelchairs

This chair has to be pushed by someone else. Again the sizes vary to fit the user.

Shore term hire

This service is often used by customers requiring a wheelchair when travelling and so need it to be delivered to a specific location for a short period of time. A large proportion of the cost for short term wheelchair hire is made up of delivery charges and insurance as well as the daily hire rate.

Extended Hire

Some customers now choose to long term rental as a viable and cost effective alternative to buying a powerchair, as rental contracts a now offered for up to three consecutive years.

These rental plans generally comprise of an initial payment that covers the first month’s rental and other costs such as delivery, which is then followed by a lower monthly charge for the hire costs only.

This type of agreement is a real alternative to purchasing a powerchair on finance as all costs, such as insurance and recovery services, are included
