Older people 'should consider stairlift space when moving home'

People of an older age should make sure any new home they purchase has enough room for mobility aids, it has been claimed.
Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Lorna Vestey advised one retired couple to consider how much space there is for a stairlift when viewing houses.
The pair wrote in to the publication in order to ask where they should start when looking to move property now that their children have grown up and left the nest.
"If buying a house, ensure the stairs could take a stairlift," she explained, adding that some "over-60s developments" offer a range of features to help mobility aid users.
Easy taps and wide doorways for wheelchairs are also common, Ms Vestey said, while living close to family members in case of an emergency is also a good idea.
Earlier this month, Carole Cochrane of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers told the Sunday Telegraph that more needs to be done to allow the elderly access to mobility aids.
