Brambles 'putting users of mobility scooters in danger'

Pavements in Chard are dangerous for users of mobility scooters, such as those made by Rascal, due to overhanging brambles and bumps in the path, one publication has claimed.

The Chard and Ilminster News reported that a disabled resident had argued that she was put at risk when she travelled in the town.

Heulwen Bass, a 75-year-old stroke victim, told the newspaper that her journey to the local health facilities is treacherous.

"I almost take off over a bump in the pavement by the hospital entrance," she said, telling the publication that drivers often park their cars on pedestrian crossings and dropped kerbs.

Chard Disability Action Group has been cautioning car owners when they leave their vehicles next to access points to the pavement using yellow cards, the newspaper stated.

This comes after a report in the Manchester Evening News said that former explorer Ted Edwards was campaigning against the decision to ban mobility scooters on the city's new trams.ADNFCR-2649-ID-19909567-ADNFCR
