Motability Scooters Scheme
Route2mobility is the company which operates the mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs scheme under the contract of Motability. This scheme enables elderly disabled people use their government funded mobility allowance to obtain a powered wheelchair or mobility scooter.
To qualify for this scheme you must receive either of the following benefits, and have at least 12 months award length remaining:
- Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance
- War Pensioner’s Mobility Supplement
When obtaining a scooter or wheelchair via the scheme there are two options that enable you to turn your mobility allowance into the scooter or wheelchair you require:
- Contract Hire
- You can contract hire the desired product for a 1-4 year period, at the end of which the product will be returned. No upfront payments (unless the vehicle is over you mobility allowance) are required and the monthly payment will also cover; insurance, extended warranty, servicing and repairs, tyres and breakdown cover.
- Hire Purchase
- This scheme allows you to own the scooter or wheelchair after an agreed period, between 1-5 years. The agreement will also include insurance for the product.
The Process
Once you have decided to proceed an Accredited Dealer will visit to discuss any questions you may have, and which scooters or wheelchairs are available. The dealer will also assess which is most suitable to you. Once you have decided on the most suitable solution the dealer will be able to complete the necessary forms, and look after the process.
