Stair Lift Installation
The installation of a stair lift should be carried out by a trained professional to ensure the stair lift is installed correctly and safely.
A stair lift basically consists of a mounted track or rail upon which the motor and chair rides. The chair should entail of a seat, foot and armrest and controls.
The first step in installing stairlifts is to ensure that the stair themselves are in good condition. This is important as the lift rail/track is fitted to the stair treads and not the wall and the stair will have to carry the weight on the stair lift.
Once it has been established that the stairs are sound then the rail can be fitted. The rail can be fitted to either side of the stairs depending on access and ease of use. The rail is fixed to the stairs by using brackets which are screwed into the stair tread (the top of the stair). The rail can be supported entirely by brackets or rest on the stairs themselves. The rail can come in several sections which are connected together on installation.
Once the rail is fitted the motor can then be mounted on the rail. The seat is then simply attached to the motor, and the stair lift is ready to be tested.
Installing a curved stair lift is a more complex job as the rail has to follow the contours of the staircase. The installation process is similar to above but can take longer. A simple straight stair lift can be fitted in 1 – 2 hours.
