Battery Maintenance

Good maintenance of your mobility scooter battery will ensure a long life, and ensure maximum performance from your scooter. Below are a few tips on how to maintain your battery. Follow these tips and you will extend the life of your battery.

Charging Your Battery

Correct charging of your battery is probably one of the most important procedures to ensure long life and maximum distance coverage. Carefully read the manufacturers manual for full instructions. Usually, even if you have taken your mobility scooter on a short trip it is advisable to put the battery on charge. Once the battery is fully charged, the charger will continue to release a small trickle of power into the battery, ensuring a maximum charge.

Storing your Scooter and Battery

Store your scooter and battery in a cool dry place if possible. If your battery is left near a radiator for example, it may effect the life of the battery.

Greasing the Terminals

Again ensuring the terminals are well greased will prolong the life of the battery. If your mobility scooter is regularly serviced this is one of the points the engineer should cover, but it is worth checking.

Cleaning the Battery

Damp can cause damage to the battery so if your scooter and battery get wet or damp simply wipe down with a cloth.

Tips

  • Only use the approved battery charger compatible with your vehicle.
  • After using your vehicle, if possible charge your battery every night for at least 8 hours, regardless of the amount of use your scooter has had that day.
  • If you are not going to use your vehicle for an extended period (a few days) fully charge your battery then disconnect the battery from the vehicle.
  • New batteries must be fully charged before use.
